The transit provider plans for riders to be able to board at Harbor Gateway Transit Center at 731 W. Prospective shuttle riders living in Long Beach will have to leave the city before boarding the Chargers Express shuttle. If that number of people ride the shuttle, traffic congestion around Stub Hub Center would be reduced by nearly 1,000 vehicles. Long Beach Transit’s management projected the shuttle can carry as many as 3,000 people to Chargers games. “We estimate one-way travel time on the Chargers Express at 15-20 minutes, which may be faster than cars travelling on local streets,” he said. Long Beach Transit Chief Executive Kenneth McDonald said in a statement that riding the shuttle may be more convenient than driving to and parking at stadium grounds. Rides are scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. The service is scheduled to begin Sunday, in time for the Chargers’ preseason game versus the Seattle Seahawks. Football fans can catch a free shuttle ride to Los Angeles Chargers’ home games at StubHub Center in Carson, Long Beach Transit announced Wednesday.
